KS2 Science Quizzes

Key Stage 2 Science spans Years 3 to 6 and builds on the curiosity and basic scientific understanding developed at KS1. The national curriculum is organised around biology, chemistry, and physics topics, with a cross-cutting emphasis on working scientifically. Although Science is not assessed through SATs, teacher assessment at the end of Year 6 reports whether pupils are working at the expected standard, and many schools use formal tests to evaluate scientific understanding throughout KS2.

Biology: Living Things and Life Processes

Our KS2 Science quizzes cover the full biology curriculum. Topics include plants (functions of parts, water transport, pollination, seed dispersal), animals including humans (nutrition, the skeleton and muscles, the digestive system, teeth, the circulatory system, and the effects of diet, exercise, and lifestyle on health), living things and their habitats (classification keys, life cycles, food chains, and the work of naturalists), and evolution and inheritance (fossils, adaptation, and natural selection). Each quiz reinforces key vocabulary and tests understanding of biological processes.

Chemistry and Physics

Chemistry topics include rocks and soils, states of matter, properties and changes of materials (dissolving, filtering, evaporating, reversible and irreversible changes), and the properties that make materials suitable for different purposes. Physics quizzes cover forces and magnets, electricity (simple and series circuits, components, voltage), light (how it travels, reflection, refraction, shadows), sound (vibration, pitch, volume), and Earth and space (the solar system, day and night, the moon). Questions are designed to develop conceptual understanding alongside factual recall.

Working Scientifically

The working scientifically strand runs through every topic and accounts for a significant proportion of what pupils are expected to learn. Our quizzes test skills such as asking scientific questions, planning fair tests, identifying and controlling variables, selecting appropriate equipment, recording data accurately in tables and graphs, drawing conclusions from results, and evaluating the reliability of evidence. Mastering these enquiry skills at KS2 gives pupils a strong foundation for the more formal scientific investigations they will encounter at KS3 and GCSE.
