Description

Have you ever wondered why some people are short, and others tall, while some are deaf and others dumb, and some can talk totally fine as if nothing is wrong with them? Variation helps you to understand why certain species of organisms are different from others. Also,  studies of variation and classification have helped lots of scientists to become familiar with one another’s work, as all organisms have been given scientific names which are used throughout the globe.

All organisms are identified and easily named because of classification. We are also able to differentiate between living organisms as a result of classification.

Variation is simply the difference in DNA content among individuals or the differences between characteristics between populations.  There are two types of variation

  • Somatics variation is caused by environmental factors
  • Germinal variation caused by mutations or sex chromosomal aberration

Classification on the other hand is a grouping of organisms in various ways. There are 7 levels to which living organisms are classified: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.

Quizzes on our website are exam standard quizzes set under almost all subjects. Classification is one of the broadest topics in Biology, as it is divided into the classification of plants and animals. The quiz with questions below will now help you understand the broader nature of this topic. For more Biology quizzes, Click here.
