About KS2 Science

KS2 Science Quizzes

Key Stage 2 Science covers Years 3 to 6 and develops the scientific knowledge and enquiry skills that prepare pupils for secondary school and beyond. While Science is not formally assessed through SATs, schools use teacher assessment to report whether pupils are meeting the expected standard, and many schools administer their own end-of-year Science tests. The KS2 curriculum spans biology, chemistry, and physics topics, all underpinned by the working scientifically strand that teaches children to plan and conduct fair experiments, record and analyse data, and draw evidence-based conclusions.

Biology Topics

Our KS2 biology quizzes cover living things and their habitats, including classification keys, life cycles of mammals, amphibians, insects, and birds, and the work of naturalists such as Carl Linnaeus and Jane Goodall. Animals including humans quizzes address nutrition, the skeletal and muscular system, the digestive system, teeth, the circulatory system, and the impact of diet, exercise, drugs, and lifestyle on health. Plants quizzes explore the functions of roots, stems, leaves, and flowers, water transport, pollination, seed formation, and seed dispersal. Evolution and inheritance quizzes introduce fossils as evidence of change, how living things have adapted to their environments, and the process of natural selection.

Chemistry and Physics Topics

Chemistry-focused quizzes cover rocks and soils (types of rock, formation, fossils, and soil composition), states of matter (solids, liquids, gases, and changes of state), properties and changes of materials (thermal and electrical conductivity, solubility, reversible and irreversible changes), and mixtures and separation techniques. Physics quizzes address forces and magnets, electricity (simple circuits, switches, conductors, insulators, and voltage), light (how it travels, shadows, reflection, and refraction), sound (vibration, pitch, volume, and how sound travels), and Earth and space (the solar system, planetary movement, day and night, and the phases of the moon).

Working Scientifically

Throughout KS2, pupils develop their ability to ask scientific questions, plan different types of enquiry, take accurate measurements using appropriate equipment, record data in tables, bar charts, and line graphs, and report findings using scientific language. Our quizzes reinforce these skills by testing understanding of variables, fair testing, results interpretation, and the ability to explain observations using scientific knowledge. Strong scientific enquiry skills developed at KS2 give pupils a significant advantage when they begin the more rigorous investigations required at KS3.
