About KS2 (key stage 2) Online Times Table Quizzes

KS2 Times Tables Quizzes

Fluent recall of multiplication tables is one of the most important mathematical skills that primary pupils develop, and from 2020 onwards all Year 4 pupils in England take the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), a statutory online assessment that tests speed and accuracy across all tables from 2 to 12. Our KS2 times table quizzes provide the regular, focused practice that children need to achieve automatic recall by the time they sit the check.

Building Fluency from 2 to 12

Our quizzes are structured to support a progressive learning journey. Pupils can start with the tables they first encounter in Year 2 (the 2, 5, and 10 times tables), then move on to the Year 3 tables (3, 4, and 8), and finally tackle the Year 4 tables (6, 7, 9, 11, and 12). Each quiz presents multiplication facts in a randomised order, preventing children from relying on reciting the table from the beginning and instead building genuine instant recall. Division facts are also included, since the MTC and wider curriculum require pupils to understand the inverse relationship between multiplication and division.

Speed, Accuracy, and the Multiplication Tables Check

The MTC gives pupils six seconds per question across 25 questions, so both speed and accuracy matter. Our quizzes can be used to simulate this time pressure, helping children become comfortable answering quickly and confidently. Regular timed practice reduces anxiety about the check and builds the fluency that pupils need to apply their tables knowledge in larger calculations, including long multiplication, long division, fractions, and ratio problems throughout KS2.

Tips for Parents and Teachers

Research shows that little and often is the most effective approach to learning times tables. Five minutes of daily quiz practice is far more productive than a single long session each week. Encourage children to identify their weakest tables and focus extra practice there. Celebrate improvements in speed and accuracy to build motivation. Once all tables are secure, mixed quizzes that combine facts from across the full range help ensure that knowledge is retained over time and can be applied fluently in any context.
