A level Magnets and Electromagnets quizzes

(Magnets and Electromagnets quizzes for A level, GCE, GCSE, and necta.)

In our world today,  magnets are essential in electronic technology. Magnets are very useful, fun and even a little mysterious. Magnets repel as well as they attract. The science of magnetism is tied to the modern science of electricity, but has been recognized for many years now.

Magnetism

Magnetism is the power of a material to attract. It also refers to the attraction to iron and other metals in electric currents and magnets.. Different kinds of magnetism cause some magnets to attract, while others cause them to repel.  We need to take note here that, magnetism is a very important topic and because we use it to create electrical energy, it does help in certain appliances to engineers and technicians.  Most of the energy that we use today are produced from rotating magnets . Some very essential  properties of magnets are ,

Attractive Property: Magnet attracts ferromagnetic materials like iron, cobalt, and nickel.

Repulsive Properties: We all know that like magnetic poles repel each other and unlike magnetic poles attract each other.

Directive Property :Here, any freely suspended magnets always points in a north-south direction.

There are two types of magnets, Permanent magnets such as an alloy of aluminum, nickel, and cobalt and Temporal magnets such as Electromagnets.

Electromagnets

An electromagnet any magnet that runs on electricity. Unlike permanent magnets, the strength of electromagnets can easily be changed, by changing the amount of electric current that flows through it. We realize that, the poles of an electromagnet can even be reversed by reversing the flow of electricity.  A simple electromagnet usually comprises of a length of wire turned into a coil and connected to a battery or power supply,  wrapping the coil around a piece of iron (such as an iron nail) . Moving charges create magnetic fields, so when the coils of wire in an electromagnet have an electric current passing through them, the coils behave like a magnet.

To summarize, Magnets and electromagnets are used in wide range of fields, like engineering, electrical engineers use magnets in most of their  Construction where almost all electrical gadgets, equipment, and machines are done using the properties of magnetism, like in transformers, electrical rotating machines, i.e., generators and motors, relays, cutouts, electrical bells, etc.  used by us in our day to day life and so plays a very vital role.
